Heather Ferguson is heard here in peak form awash in the elegant and mesmerizing sounds of saxophonist Barrie Sorensen and trumpeter Miguelito Valdes…The result is that the performance throughout the album is marvelously clean and the music itself can only be called luminous.

Short Bio

Heather Ferguson is a soulful jazz vocalist and songwriter whose artistry is distinguished by elegant vocals, authentic songwriting, and a deep commitment to the audience experience. Based in Victoria, BC, Heather’s musical journey is one of creative reinvention: after a career in non-profit leadership, she embraced her “second act” in music, infusing her performances with maturity and lived experience rare in today’s scene.

Heather’s jazz roots run deep, honed through studies at the Victoria Conservatory of Music under the mentorship of bassist Joey Smith. Her 2023 debut album, Lush Life, garnered critical acclaim for its warm delivery and evocative interpretations of classic jazz standards, establishing her as a compelling storyteller with a signature approach that places the listener at the heart of the music.

With her latest release, FOUND (2025), Heather showcases her growth as both songwriter and performer. The album features originals co-written with pianist Attila Fias, alongside fresh takes on jazz standards arranged by Dr. Tony Genge, all bristling with emotion, wisdom, and honesty. Her music defies boundaries—deeply rooted in jazz, yet drawing freely on multiple genres to serve the story and mood of each song.

Heather Ferguson’s second act is a testament to creative possibility and audience connection. Her soulful performances, shaped by a lifetime of experiences, deliver captivating live shows that linger with audiences long after the music ends.
